Converting CO2 using EC cells

Researchers from Cornell University have devised a new Electrochemical Cell (EC) which uses Oxygen and aluminum to convert CO2 into useful chemical like aluminum oxalate. This aluminum oxalate is used in the synthesis of oxalic acid which is widely used in industries. The cell has
anode of aluminum foil, the cathode consists of a stainless steel mes. Something useful out of useless.
